Knock it down the fairway in 2010

Get Golf Ready!

Three new sessions of the popular Get Golf Ready program are ready to start at Verdae Greens Golf Club.

This is a five-session program designed to teach the beginner golfer what they need to know before going out on the course.

Programs go over the history of golf and basic etiquette, chipping and pitching, using your irons and fairway clubs, teeing off, how to play basics like keeping score and key rules. And, of course, pace of play.

Each 90-minute session includes supervised practice time. Verde will provide clubs if you need them. The cost of the program is $99 and you should contact Verdae if you are interested. Tuesday sessions start on April 13; Wednesday sessions on April 14 and a later Tuesday series will begin on May 18.

Message from the President

Welcome to 2010 current and future members of EWGA Greenville.  Our first official year was a great start. We developed a great core group of ladies and learned a lot about running a successful organization.

This year I challenge everyone to help grow our membership, get more of our members on the course and mentor new golfers.  We have many exciting events planned for the upcoming year.  This will provide plenty of opportunities for learning and sharpening our golf skills, while networking and having fun at the same time.

This is a terrific opportunity for you to volunteer for a committee, recruit a member or join us for a golf outing.  Two challenges for each of you, 1) Play in at least one event this year, 2) Bring one new member into the group. If we each meet that challenge we would be a stronger organization and have a ton of fun in the process.

Let’s have a great time this year with our current friends, welcome new friends and continue to nurture and support women learning the game of golf for work and life.  Please feel free to contact me or any other members on our board if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions for our chapter.

Let’s have a great year and see you on the course!

Can social media help your golf game?

Here are some ideas about how you can use social media with EWGA.

Twitter: We are on Twitter as EWGAGreenville. First, if you’re on Twitter, follow us. Second, let your Twitfriends know what you’re up to. If you’re looking for someone to go out for a quick nine, tweet it. You may find a partner.

Facebook: We have a Facebook page (EWGA - Greenville SC). Become a fan. Post pictures, information about good courses you’ve played at, start a discussion (what are the best courses for women in the Upstate? I’d like to know!) or contribute to one. Put a foursome together.

LinkedIn: We have a LinkedIn group (Executive Women’s Golf Association - Greenville SC chapter). Connect with business and executive women who are also golfers. What a great business tool - and fun too.

Social media is a great way to keep in touch. Last year, when our scramble team was competing in the national championship, we used Twitter to text information about their progress and standing.

As the lottery says, however, you’ve got to be in it to win it. You can’t sit on the sidelines in this game, it is a participatory sport.
